Grow Kaikohe stemmed from a proposal by Ministry for Primary Industries to enhance employment prospects for the large number of unemployed young people in the Kaikohe area. ĀKAU was engaged to facilitate workshops with local community leaders, iwi and whānau. In true ĀKAU style, it was a fun, interactive and collaborative venture. We brought a fresh perspective to a stagnant problem. For any employment initiative to flourish, the deeper issues of Kaikohe needed to be addressed. Our vision was to reinvigorate the positive spirit and image of Kaikohe. The outcome was a design driven, community led strategy that could connect Kaikohe with the wider economic growth of Northland.
