    About this Position

    The ĀKAU Foundation strives to empower taitamariki around Aotearoa to become connected, creative learners. We help taitamariki recognize and harness the creativity of their tupuna by involving them in tangible projects that have real impact for taitamariki, their whānau and their community.

    The ĀKAU intern role is a 12-month internship working alongside the ĀKAU Foundation and Studio on real design projects. This position is for someone transitioning into the workforce or further education to experience on the job training, providing administration and design support throughout the life cycle of real design projects. Part of the role will also include working with other staff members to help facilitate creative youth workshops around Te Taitokerau.

    The role requires someone who is passionate about design and is keen to learn about and be a part of the ĀKAU kaupapa. They will be a valued member of the ĀKAU team contributing their own skills and knowledge to the many projects and programmes that ĀKAU takes on. In return, ĀKAU will provide you with a structured training programme, real world experience and opportunities to meet people in relevant professions and assist them in gaining skills that will help them towards their chosen fields. From there, interns can continue into the workforce or further education with the confidence and knowledge they need to succeed.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Admin support
    • Facilitating workshops
    • To develop a design portfolio
    • Research
    • Documenting information
    • Develop a design brief
    • Engage in collective ĀKAU kaupapa
    • Assist with design and brainstorming
    • Understand the ĀKAU process

    THE IDEAL PERSON:

    • This position would be suitable for someone that is no longer in full time school education but who wants to learn new skills and gain new experiences .

    TERMS OF CONTRACT: The position is anticipated to commence in January 2019 and is a full time role (37.5 hrs per week). This is a paid position.

    This role is based in Kaikohe, but travelling at times is required. All work related travel will be paid for by ĀKAU.
