Te Toka Tumoana

Brief

To develop a brief that will inform the design of a new iwi hub in Kaitaia

Our role has been to understand the complexities of the project and capture the aspirations of the many hapū of Te Rarawa. Travelling to the remote marae has been a vital part of the process, as we listen to diverse stories of the local areas and the commonalities across the region. We undertook extensive consultation to understand the desires of the people who will use the space for years to come. During the next stage, we will work with taitamariki to generate the concept design, which will then be presented back to the trustees and wider whānau. Te Toka Tumoana will be designed by its users – current and future. The process takes time, but a whānau-centred approach ensures that the building we create together will be the best possible outcome for the people of Te Rarawa.

We need a Māori place, where we can be Māori.
