Here we acknowledge and capture the mauri of whānau within a vessel that holds light, turning whānau into a constellation of stars. Create your own whānau whetū and be the holder of your whānau kōrero.
Activity:
Ākonga are to think and brainstorm about their whānau and what makes them unique. They then draw a picture of their whānau incorporating their ideas on to black paper.
Using the tracing paper ākonga translate their whānau drawing into a star constellation by identifying key points and marking these with small dots.
Use the tracing paper template and a pin to mark the stars onto a new piece of black paper. Put the pierced black paper and a light into the jar and watch it glow!
Finish off the papamahi by asking ākonga to write a short kōrero about their whānau, what they mean to them and their special qualities.
