We celebrate taakaro Māori
We are collaborating with all the kura in Te Tai Tokerau to create a installation at Waitangi Day 2026. Using the Tākaro components they create we will setup a tent celebrating Tākaro, indigenous play and learning through playfull interaction.

Nau mai ki te rēhia! Come and join the fun!
We're inviting you to help us create a magical play-space filled with taonga taakaro at Waitangi in 2026! We celebrate Hine-te-rēhia and the many other amazing Atua Māori who love to play, in a Māori play-space made for mokopuna of all ages! Tomo mai - come on in and let's play together! Our wero is to create the different components for the kēmu/games with Rākau, Tamataiki, Poi and Manu Rere.

Create your own set of poi adorned with creative tuhituhi designs with reflections of ‘Ko wai au’ Use your poi to perform the famous rhythmic poi dances ‘Poi e’ and ‘E rere taku poi’

Design and make your own individual rākau influenced by tohu (symbols), whakakairo, tukutuku and kowhaiwhai (patterns). Add your own ideas and adornments before sending it back to be used in the biggest game of Maui Matau during Waitangi 2026.
