Cast out your line, fish up your spectrum of light and add colour to your class environment with iconic animals, birds and fish of Aotearoa.
Activity:
Ākonga research native animals, fish and birds of Aotearoa and then create 3-5 small thumbnail drawings of their favourite specimens.
Using white pencil/pastel on black paper ākonga draw a large outline of one of the creatures ensuring it touches all 4 edges of the page.
Ākonga finish their drawing by adding bright pastel colours and filling in the background using Māori patterns or their own tohu designs. Refer to the Pātaka for examples.
Watch their favourite animal, bird or fish move in action!
