Kaikohekohe Flag Project

To use flags as a way of representing community identity.
This project developed by ĀKAU, allowed the community to contribute to the reinvigoration of the Kaikohe streetscape by exploring ‘Ko wai ahau?’. Taitamariki part of our ĀKAU Futures programme all developed a personalised flag which incorporated design references like their Kaitiaki, their pepeha, their loves and passions. Through our workshops, taitamariki developed a palette for the flags that represented the colours of Kaikohekohe as well as designing a ‘Hākari’ stage to display the communities flags and to display our feast. The blessing was a summery, fun afternoon full of vivid colour, celebrating all that Kaikohe has to offer.
Ngā mihi ki a koutou e ngā kaimahi o Ākau! Pai rawa te ahiahi nei! Pai ōu koutou manaaki ki aku tamariki tokorua. Pai hoki ā rāua haki e rere ana!
