What is ĀKAU’S Kaupapa for Whatu Marama?
Whatu Marama encourages collaborative design work to explore the theme of “Kaitiaki Taniwha” through learning about ‘Ko Wai Ahau - Who am I? and ‘Te Taiao - the environment’.
These resources are inspired by Toi Te Rito Maihi’s research of Māori Textiles and patterns, will bring light and celebration to the multiple layers of culture, heritage, tangata whenua and Te Taiao.
The activities here will help you to build a foundation to create an aspect of the kaitiaki taniwha - an unaunahi (scale) and niho (tooth).
